Funny Commercial...

Oh, did I say funny? I meant disgusting. I just heard an add for a new pill that attacks RLS - Restless Leg Syndrome! Here's yet another pill you can take every day for the rest of your life. And, yes, that's a very necessary measure because RLS is JUST THAT SERIOUS.
Now I'd like to solely blame the big, scummy, drug companies for this but it is just a byproduct of our society. Our national religion, making money, means even in the field of medicine you follow the greenbacks to the exclusion of all else. I don't know how many millions they spent coming up with a drug to combat the unholy terror of people shaking their legs as a habit, but I wonder if that money couldn't have been used for research on things that are, oh I don't know, killing people.
Anyway, our loving father in heaven (The Market) knows all, so keep waiting for that cancer cure. In the meantime, they've got a $100,000,000 pill that will stop you from yawning. Side effects include insanity and death.

Intern...

My department got an intern this summer. He's a nice kid from a LA town so small it's technically a village. Great experience for him, a black hole of time for me. I like him plenty but there is just nothing I can really give him to do except make the odd appointment. So that leaves the classic "shadow" method where he watches me as I work and I describe what I'm doing.
That basically equals getting a hell of a lot less work done in a given day (no mean feat for me). The good news is he is as green as envy itself. He will walk away infinitely better prepared for the corporate game than he would have from all his fancy schmancy book learnin' (to use Davy Crockett's phrase).
Of course I'm typing this post while he sits in the next cube with nothing to do. Very negligent of me but my uncensored advice more than makes up for it. I consider myself no novice at the art of seeing through the pasteboard office world and understanding where it's really at.
I'm very much looking forward to being back on my own. However, it is fun to envision young Jesse years from now sitting in an office and saying to himself, "You know what? Mr. Escobar was right."
