Getting back to normal...

After a really crazy month (or two) I think we're getting back to regular life.  I'm getting back to real work for the first time in probably half a year.  The weirdo waiting for layoff phase is over and I'm finally doing some real work at my new job.
I have to hire four contractors and get them to do something-or-other by 8/31.  I'm not sure what because I have no idea what they were talking about in that meeting.  Luckily, I'm really good at pretending like I do get what people are talking about.  Then, after they leave, I go "What the hell did they say?"
What else?  Took part in the longest roleplaying session of my life past weekend.  It was great though.  Now that's a Geek badge of honor.
Got to go back to looking for the lost cook book.  This is a four alarm fire here at the household so away I go.

So, So Tired...

I just got back from the airport.  I haven't had a good night's sleep in a week.  I've driven about 1,500 miles in the rental and now I'm off to work half a day.  By work, I mean stare at the monitor until 4:00.  I also have to arrange for the van to be picked up so I don't have to find my way to Garland with a wing(wo)man.  That will cost an extra $25.
No big deal though.  With the money we've spent this month, $25 is the equivalent of one brick in the great pyramid at Giza.  God our credit cards must love us right now.
Oh well, here I go...

Lot's of Family Time...
My new boss was cool and I'm off this week until Friday (Mom and Dad fly off Thursday).  We've been running around all over town since getting back from San Antonio.  It's nice to finally have my mom visit here (she's only ever been here for graduation and the wedding).
Tonight we're staying home to barbecue so I've got to venture out into that sweltering heat and get started.
The visit is giving me plenty of chances to experiment with our new camera (finally went digital).  That plus the scanner I *acquired* means we can get a virtual album going.  How did people ever get by with just film?  We're 30ish and already have enough albums to stack up to my neck.  Anyway, time to get crackin'...

No Rest For The Rock Stupid

We were in San Antonio this weekend, my mom is flying in Saturday and we head back down again. Then we come back for a week long visit.
The real downside here is that I have to clean the house like the Pope is coming to visit. My mom bugs me about cleaning up around the house as it is and she's never even been here!
They're being cool at the new job about the time off. I have no idea what I need to claim it as. I've never even seen our time keeping system. Luckily my boss is new so he probably hasn't either. In fact, a similar situation worked out pretty well at the old place.
Side note... Since we got our new PC I can't get into comments on most blogs including my own. Don't see myself having the time to figure that out soon but that's why you won't see comments from me.

Goodbye Crapville...

First American. I still hate them as much as I ever did. Only now the hatred is mixed with amusement. Sure it was fun to leave them the first time and screw 'em over a bit. This, however is a whole new level. After the paid month off I *talked* my way into, I have now picked up my last check (including the oft dreamt of severance package).
So, thank you and farewell to First American. Thanks for being the fetid collection of miserable human beings that you are. If it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't have left, taking with me all you that were forced to give.
Speaking of which, thanks for the Cancun vacation (which you not only paid for, but paid me through), the new bed, computer, digital camera etc.
So, c'mon people. Raise your glass to, as I said at Trinity Hall many years ago (some of you were there)... "Screwing over the Man!"
