Update...

Ok, new New Year's resolution. I do want to post the occasional update. Sadly, work continues to be all consuming and when I get home the computer only reminds me of work.
So, here it is:
-Major shakeups in the corporate trenches. I seem to be in a stable position and have received assurances from my boss that me (and my team) are safe. The one saving grace at this job, other than the 5 mile drive, is that my boss is really great. She's exceptionally nice so I trust her about as much as I've ever trusted a 'superior.' Oh yeah, incidentally, never completely trust a superior. I came out of my last layoff smelling like a rose and I'm in even better shape this time given the economy and other factors so I'm not really sweating it.
-I will be catching Bob Dylan at three consecutive shows next month. I will be a temporary hippie, taking a little time off from work and following the Never-Ending Tour from San Antonio, through Dallas (Nokia Live) and to OKC. I will then return to the profitable, but excruciating, corporate salt mine. I am psyched. For those who suffer from the right genetic condition, catching Dylan is always a revelatory experience made all the more precious by the fact that you always wonder if this will be the last time you get to see him.
-Although I don't get to do as much political reading as I would like, I am enjoying the inevitable (and predicted by yours truly) consequences of hiring a fence post in a suit to be president. I'd list the incidents I find most amusing but that would crash the blog. Texas Tech just fell out of the running to be W's library so UD's odds just increased. Talk about an honor. I can already see the magnificently displayed coloring books.
-The house was the unofficial Cobvention crash site this last week. It was fun but it will also be great to have a nice, quiet place again. Cassandra (who was at Scott and Kathy's for the food slinging by drunken neighbors party) was back in town. We kept her busy when Cob and family had to leave town for a couple of days on a family emergency.
-Speaking of the event itself, we sang The Saga Begins with Captain Typho leading the group. If that's not geek cred of the highest (or lowest) order, I don't know what is. The 1st stay up drinking 'til almost dawn event for Lauki in some time equals two very tired employees today.
-Oh, and I gave up coffee for Lent so I'm a walking SOB. I always give up coffee plus one other thing but coffee is the worst. I may have to celebrate afterwards by going to Cafe Brazil and OD'ing on coffee when it's over. Wow, look how many times I used the word 'coffee' in that blurb- Definitely the sign of an addict.
